Breanna Burton and Zayla Williams knew they had the potential to create something special when they first thought about leading a women’s strength club. Recognizing the dearth of safe spaces for women in the fitness world, this local Sacramento fitness group caters to women seeking support and community.
Women’s Strength Co accepts ladies with every level of experience from beginner to advanced. Williams, a.k.a. Coach Z, enjoys witnessing the growth of her members as they show themselves their true inner strength.
“You may come into the space feeling like you are incapable of this, you’re not strong enough. We watch girls come in and be a little bit nervous and leave feeling hyped up and proud of themselves,” Williams said.
Williams makes it a precedent to remind her members why they push themselves beyond their self-limiting boundaries. “We start all of our classes, sprint club, strength club, with intention because we want the girls to remember that it’s not just about lifting, it’s not just about running. It’s about a mindset we’re trying to cultivate when you’re there,” she says.
Members of the groups don’t only support each other as they persevere through hard workouts, but they also find themselves holding each other accountable, offering advice, and most importantly sharing a laugh or two between drills. Some of the members haven’t missed a single class, such as Selina Haefke who cherishes the relationships she’s made within the group. “When you get to meet people in a vulnerable space it breeds a more genuine connection and I really love that,” Haefke says.
Reminiscing about the beginning of the club’s roots, Coach Z and Coach Bry remember what started as a simple idea that has now blossomed into a full community of strong women. “I love that we’re able to bring women together and build this community basically of just a safe spot for ladies to come get strong, feel healthy, and move their bodies,” Burton says.

For anyone seeking to join Women’s Strength Co, there is a link in their Instagram bio @womensstrengthco that leads users to their booking site. There is a $30 fee for drop-in classes and two tiers of memberships offered. The traditional strength and conditioning style classes occur every Monday and Saturday morning while their donation-based sprint club takes place every Wednesday evening.
