If preserving democracy and protecting folks’ basic rights isn’t motivation enough to get Americans to the polls, maybe Beyoncé telling folks to vote will be. At least, that seems to be Queen Bey’s hope in a just-released video for her “Cowboy Carter” track “Bodyguard.”
In the clip, Bey dressed up as Baywatch legend Pamela Anderson, poses and pouts in her finest “Beywatch” gear — all part of one of her many Halloween ensembles. But when she fires her toy gun, out pops the word “vote.”
In case people get too distracted by all the bawdy looks Beyoncé is serving, the last thing they see in the 2-minute, 28-second clip is one word against a black screen: VOTE.
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé’s encouraged her fans to become civically engaged and let their voice be heard at the polls. The singer — and her Destiny’s Child groupmate Kelly Rowland — recently voiced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris at a rally in their hometown of Houston.
Bey’s endorsement of Harris inadvertently went viral on TikTok thanks to DJ iMarkkeyz 2.0 remixing Donald Trump accusing Harris of being “at a dance party with Beyoncé.
Of course, let’s not forget Beyoncé belted out the national anthem on a freezing January day at Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2008, and sang “At Last” at the Inaugural Ball. If Kamala Harris is voted into office, perhaps Queen Bey will bring her vocals and visuals to Harris’s inauguration as well.
