Join Dr. Joy DeGruy and Dr. Bahia Cross for a powerful conversation on racial trauma, healing, and protecting the next generation.

Black youth are growing up in a society shaped by anti-Black systems that too often fail to see their full humanity — and can do lasting harm. But healing is possible — when we center truth, justice, and love.

On Wednesday, July 30, at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET, join Word In Black for a special Facebook Live event that explores how we can help Black youth heal from racial trauma — and create the conditions for them to thrive.

We’ll be in conversation with two leading voices in racial healing:

  • Dr. Joy DeGruy, author of “Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome” and founder of the Be The Healing movement
  • Dr. Bahia Cross (Overton), executive director of the Portland-based Black Parent Initiative and expert in the well-being of Black girls in foster care

Dr. Joy and Dr. Bahia will be joined by Liz Courquet-Lesaulnier, managing director of Word In Black; Ashanti Branch, founder and executive director of the Oakland-based Ever Forward Club; and Word In Black’s Racial Healing Fellows.

Join us for a conversation that, as Dr. Bahia wrote, is “committed to beaming light and love to every Black child, woman, man, and all the other ways we identify ourselves.”
